Employees around the world think they’re wasting too much time on repetitive tasks, preventing them from serving their customers better and getting more creative at their jobs.
These are the conclusions echoed in UiPath’s latest report, the 2021 Office Worker Survey, which claims more than two-thirds of employees repeat the same tasks over and over again, wasting on average 4.5 hours a week on work that could easily be automated.
Instead of doing these repetitive tasks, they would rather incorporate new responsibilities into their everyday routines, or try and be more creative in their work.
Not only that, but more than half (59 percent) are under the impression they aren’t efficiently helping their customers.
Looking at the various tasks they’d love to see automated, three stand out: emails, inputting data and creating datasets, and scheduling calls and meetings.
“It’s no surprise that employees are looking for ways to feel more engaged at work. Automation unlocks workers’ productivity, and, more importantly, frees them to focus on meaningful work that is creative, collaborative, and strategic,” said Tom Clancy, Senior Vice President of Learning, UiPath.
“It’s critical that companies provide training for and access to automation and other digital technologies to create more fulfilled and energized employees.”
And companies are doing just that, as four in ten are said to be investing more in automation software. Almost half of the employees (44 percent) received automation training last year, 91 percent of which said it improved their job performance. Many consider automation skills critical in their development, as well as for their future career success.
Finally, employees believe businesses should not stop there. Four in five agree they should be more willing to invest in digital skills training for their employees.
