With a new version of its industrial network and visibility and security platform, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky wants to double down on industrial-level security.
The key feature of the platform, called Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity for Networks, is its operational technology (OT) traffic monitoring, which is capable of revealing unauthorized activities.
However, the tool now also flags vulnerabilities in different equipment and recommends steps for their mitigation. Furthermore, Kaspersky has added support for the BACnet protocol, enabling more effective protection for smart buildings.
Finally, Kaspersky says that its automated learning mode for traffic monitoring, seamless protocol updates and the new web console simplifies management and improves efficiency in fighting industrial threats.
“Proper protection for OT environments can require fine-tuning and many manual steps. The goal of the update was to simplify the fine-tuning and many manual steps that IT security teams make in their day-to-day efforts,” said Andrey Strelkov, Product Manager for Enterprise Products at Kaspersky.
“Unlike IT devices, OT cannot always be updated at the click of a mouse and without consequences for neighboring systems. But it is still important to find ways for patching or mitigation, with which Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity for Networks now helps.”
The platform’s new vulnerability tracking gives businesses insight into details such as CVE-ID, criticality, exploitation conditions, possible consequences and guidance for mitigation. All this data will be provided by Kaspersky Industrial Control Systems’ Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS CERT).
The tool also supports additional protocols, including MICOM, Profinet, TASE.2, DirectLogic, and BACnet, enabling the tool to be used for smart building automation system protection.
